representation

What is representation?

Representation is the way someone is portrayed within a the media. it is when certain features of their appearance is highlighted to represent the character they are. when representing a person the often focus on their age, gender, sex, ethnicity and financial status.

Within representation their are stereotypes which help audience identify the characters role. stereotypes are the generalisation of a certain group of people.

3 main characters that are stereotyped

School jock -  handsome, silky hair, muscular, baseball jacket. camera of a high angle, close ups.

Mean popular girl - pretty, long hair, wears pink, rich. long shots, camera focuses on appearance and possessions.

The virgin - looks young, in school, short.

most black characters are illustrated to be illiterate and rude. i dislike this as it gives a negative impact on them as a whole and people expect this from them when some are different.

some examples.
