Step Up
In the holiday I watched Step Up. In this film 4 teen characters attend a performing arts school and work towards putting on a school showcase. The film mainly is about street dance. Step Up also focuses itself around the characters social lives and personal lives, as the film also has relationships.
Step Up overall is not as typical as other teen movies are. This is as the stereotypical roles certain people should be seen as playing are not present in the film/ are switched up. For example "the ghetto" character is usually played by a black male as the media usually portray this character by a black male. However in Step Up a white male is seen playing this type of character. This challenges the stereotype of black people being the ghetto type. This film is seen more serious compared to other teen movies such as 'She's The Man' as it tackles the death of a character. This gives the impression of Step Up being a more realistic film compared to others as it does not hide around the bush in exploring cases that do happen in real life. Some teen films choose to ignore such serious themes because they only aim to appeal to the audiences humour.
