Typical stereotypes used in teen films
Some typical stereotypes used in teen films are:
- Teens always wear hoddies and baggy trousers
- Teen can't drive properly
- Teens have everything easy in society
- Teens are responsible for most crimes
- Teens have hardly any interest in politics
Representation in media is the way in which the media portrays people in ideas, groups, topics and ideological perspectives. For example, A advert played on T.V showing a young women driving a car on the motor but crashes her car due to her trying to do her make-up before her job interview. First this shows that women are not good drivers and also they believe that make will is required at all times to make then look good.
Examples of stereotypes used in teen movies:
SuperBad

The plot of this movie is about two school friends who are on a mission to get alcohol for a graduation party in the hope that they lose their virginity. This portrays teens as wild animals who don't have respect for themselves or who don't care about anything. This could be due to curiosity and teenagers trying out new things as nowadays teenagers have less things to do and feel that society is placing them on the sidelines. Peer pressure is also another problems as people tend to push their friends into doing things that they usually find wrong.
Not Another Teen movie:
The main characters in the movie are all males who all look muscular, wear college baseball jackets and think they are all slick compared to another teen movie, mean girls are the the same in the sense that they try their best to look great at all times to attract the attention of the other male characters.
